It’s Tough Living in a Post-Knowledge World.

Because I’m a certain age, I can remember a time when you either knew something, or you didn’t. If you didn’t know something (or know how to do something), you went to the library and read about it. Then you did it. Then you figured out how to get better at it.

It’s great that almost everyone has the full contents of the Internet available to them. LLMs, YouTube videos, and static content inform and instruct millions of people every day. Less common is people committing that material to their own understanding, so that they can expand on the body of knowledge that we all share.

I’ve had it explained before that some choose to learn less so that they can do more. I definitely prefer the less interesting route of learning more and doing less.
