How much is reliable Internet connectivity worth to you?
I’ve known about the Internet since before HTTP existed - and started using it in 1991. Being connected to the Internet from my residence has been important to me for over 30 years. NCSSM and NCSU had Ethernet in the dorms. In my first years out of college, I had ISDN to my apartment. I had a T1 run to my first house ($800 a month for a 1.5Mbit/s connection!). I later had business fiber run to two different homes.
Clearly, I was (and remain) a corner case - and it was a different time.
Fast forwarding to today, most Americans have a connection to the Internet. The societal level of dependence on on-demand connectivity is at the highest point in history. Without it, banking, work, school, gaming, and TV are simply unavailable for many.
So… how much would you be willing to pay to make sure you NEVER have to go without Internet in your residence? What if I told you it was little as $35 a month?
